Eagle-eyed USA is the fourth-largest wine producing country in the world. Spreading its great wings, America has been impressively producing sublime fine-wines for over 300 years. Todayesteemed California accounts for 89 percent of all US wine.

The first Europeans to explore North America, a Viking expedition from Greenland, curiously called it Vinland due to the abundance of grape vines they found there. The earliest records of wine having been cultivated here is between 1562 and 1564 by French Huguenot settlers near Jacksonville, Florida.

Today Napa Valley is considered a prized American Viticultural Area (AVA) of outstanding natural beauty. Nearly400 wineries produce fine-wines from 47,000 acres of vineyards. The prominent prestigious producers are Mondavi Winery, Berlinger, and Sutter Home. Napa Valley’s generous climate provides consistency and exceptional quality fine wines. Napa Valley is now a major enotouristic destination. Itfeatured in the prestigious Paris Wine Tasting of 1976, which cemented the region's shining reputation.

The famous Sonoma Valley boasts three official wine-growing regions, Sonoma Country, Northern Sonoma and Sonoma Coast. With vineyards extending from Los Carneros in the South to Alexander Valley in the north, the excellent climate and prime soils of Sonoma offer more different types of wine than any other fine-wine producing region in California. Sonoma Valley excels with many diverse grape varieties, but its two most renowned are Pinot Noir and Zinfandel.Sonoma’s most famous wineries include Gallo Family Wineries, Kendall-Jackson, Korbel, Simi, Sebastiani, Jordan and Gloria Ferrer. Vérité’s fine wines have received the highest acclaim, as a new iconic wine from the United States. Intended to be in the same league as a Pétrus, since 1998 fifteen have been awarded 100 Robert Parker points.

Opus One Winery, a luxury winery in Oakville, California, is the realized dream of two eminent men: Baron Philippe de Rothschild of Chateau Mouton Rothschild in Bordeaux and Napa Valley vintner Robert Mondavi.The estate’s vineyards are on the western portion of the renowned Oakville AVA. Two parcels, totaling 100 acres, are within the famed To Kalon Vineyard and 70 acres of the Ballestra and River parcels, which envelop the winery.
