Considered the original Californian "cult wine" and featuring in the Telegraphs 10 most expensive wines in the world, Screaming Eagle is a wine lovers force to be reckoned with. An imperial 1992 vintage fetched the highest price ever paid for a bottle of wine at the Napa Valley charity Wine Auction in 2000. This vintage was subsequently awarded a staggering 99 Robert Parker points.
Proprietor Jean Philips never dreamt that her grapes would become so successful. The legend of Screaming Eagle started in 1992, after years of selling Cabernet Sauvignon to Napa Valley wineries, Phillips took a sample to Robert Mondavi. The rest is history. Today Screaming Eagle is one of the most celebrated and expensive wines in the Napa Valley.
Screaming Eagle's vineyard is ideally situated on a west-facing slope east of the Napa River. Drainage and exposure are excellent and the soil is rich in rock pile. The valley enjoys a perfect microclimate, with hot daytime temperatures cooled by breezes from the San Pablo Bay.
Screaming Eagle produces a limited 500 cases a year under the direction of winemaker Heidi Peterson Barret. The estate passed to billionaire Stan Kroenke (largest shareholder in the Arsenal football team) and Charles Banks in 2006. The internationally renowned oenologist Michel Rolland is a consultant at the winery.
BTC Wines offers international delivery in original wooden cases.
