Nestled at the southernmost tip of the renowned Médoc wine-growing region of Bordeaux, the famed Margaux area contains 1413 hectares of vineyards, making it the second largest appellation in the Haut-Médoc.
Margaux’s fine wines prioritize the esteemed Cabernet Sauvignon as their predominant grape variety, blended with other prestigious grapes such as Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdon and Malbec to create exceptional red wines of tannic structure and rich complexity.
Margaux’s renowned soil is the thinnest in the Médoc region, with the highest proportion of gravel, providing excellent drainage. The forest to the west shelters the vines from Atlantic breezes creating the perfect environment for growing exceptional luxury red wines.
Margaux features an impressive concentration of classified growths from the Bordeaux Wine Official Classification of 1855, including the eponymous first growth Château Margaux, and second growth Château Lascombes, and Château Rauzan-Ségla.
