Château Lafite Rothschild
Chateau Lafite Rothschild is known for producing the finest Bordeaux wine in the entire appellation. It’s one of the most famous, as well as most expensive wines in the world. Lafite Rothschild has long been the status symbol of choice for discerning wine collectors. For Robert Sleigh, head of wines for Sotheby’s in Asia, no other bottle captures the Chinese imagination like Château Lafite Rothschild.
Lafite Rothschild is a First Growth Classified status from 1855. The estate’s fine wines take the consumer on a hedonistic journey, and have an excellent ability to age in great vintages.
Baron Eric Rothschild was the fifth generation of the famous banking dynasty family to manage Lafite Rothschild. The family owns other wine estates, including the other unsurpassable First Growth, Château Mouton Rothschild.
Chateau Lafite-Rothschild is one of the largest Medoc estates and is directed by Eric Kohler. With a base of gravel soil, Cabernet Sauvignon dominates the vineyard followed by Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Petit Verdot. Occasionally exceptions are made, such as the 1961 vintage of 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. The estate produces a second sublime, and highly rated, fine wine; Carruades de Lafite.
The choicest vintages of Lafite include 1918, 1846, 1945, 1947, 1959, 1961, 1982, 1990, 2000, 2003, and 2005.
